Habitual Toe Walking– Diagnostics, Classification, Treatment

David Pomarino

If children walk permanently or situationally on their forefoot, they suffer from the gait disorder “habitual toe walking”. Although this is a marginal phenomenon in neurology, orthopaedics and paediatrics, we repeatedly encounter children of different ages with a diagnosis of habitual or idiopathic toe walking. These children are still rarely examined or treated in a standardised way. If toe walking persists untreated over a long period of time, many of the affected children suffer affected children suffer from back, knee and foot pain as well as severe foot and back deformities. This book attempts to close the gaps in knowledge and research on this gait anomaly, so that adequate and efficient diagnosis and treatment of children can be guaranteed.
